BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
“ Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment. ”
- Dr Maria Montessori
The purpose of
MGM First Steps School
is to prepare students for life beyond school. Today's evolving society requires citizens to be not just educated but more self-aware and
inculcate humane values
such as compassion, respect, kindness, ethics and inclusion. One of the earliest opportunities that young children have to develop these qualities is in their schooling years. We have experienced that the easiest way to help students build a deeper understanding of the content as well as to build character is by immersing them in learning experiences outside the classroom. Taking classroom learning outside can help enrich a student's educational experience by showing them
real-life applications
of content that they are learning at school. Learning beyond the classroom activities are often
authentic, hands-on, interactive
and naturally build on classroom learning.
What is learning beyond the classroom?
Learning outside the classroom is the use of spaces other than the confines of the four walls for teaching and learning. It is about providing kids with challenging, exciting and different experiences to help them grow and learn through discovery and play.
MGM First Steps School gives students a
real-world learning
experience that sets them up for a lifelong learning journey. In alignment with the
National Education Policy (NEP),
our teachers create enthusiasm for learning and provide students exposure to a range of
integrated activities based on STEAM
(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math). Being in open environments offers children enough and more opportunities for their social and emotional development. Our parents play a major role in facilitating these learning experiences for the children by participating in them and sharing their knowledge and skills.
To help children build context, teachers organize a
variety of field visits
through the year to places such as the Airport, railway station, and bus stand, religious places like Gurudwara, mosque, temple, church and also the local post office, bakery, garden etc. This gives children a
sense of excitement and builds their enthusiasm
and also helps them build a connect with nature.
